Emergency Medicine

At the heart of our Emergency Department is a commitment to providing the highest level of care to the people of our region. As a Level I Trauma Center, designated by both the State of Texas and the American College of Surgeons (ACS), we stand ready 24/7 to care for patients in their most critical moments. Our dual certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and DNV ensures advanced stroke care with fast response and expert treatment.

We proudly serve mothers and babies with a Level IV Maternal Care designation from the State of Texas, and have earned national honors such as the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus award, including Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Advanced Therapy. Our Chest Pain and Heart Failure Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) reflects our dedication to outstanding heart care.

As the first ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency training program in the Rio Grande Valley, we are shaping the next generation of Emergency Medicine physicians who will continue to strengthen and improve care in the communities we serve.

24 Hour Cardiology Care

Cardiologists are available 24/7 to perform emergency cardiac procedures such as: balloon angioplasty, angiography, EKG, and more.

24 Hour Neuroscience Care

Neuroscience specialty care, including neurology, neurosurgery, spine surgery, and neurointerventional radiology, is available 24/7 to treat patients with neurological emergencies such as: stroke, epilepsy, hemorrhage, trauma, meningitis and acute migraine and much more.

Level 1 Trauma

DHR Health is a Level 1 Trauma Center in the Rio Grande Valley. Victims of trauma will no longer be required to travel outside of the Rio Grande Valley to receive highly specialized surgical care for serious injuries. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, DHR Health is capable of providing our community with complete and comprehensive care for every aspect of an injury – from prevention to rehabilitation.

Pediatric Emergency Room

Fully staffed with board certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, the DHR Health Pediatric Emergency Room is designed to meet the needs of our smallest patients. We offer round-the-clock access to DHR experts in more than 15 pediatric specialties and to the full facilities of our hospital.

Safe H.A.V.E.N.

Safe H.A.V.E.N. is DHR Health's forensic exam center that provides comprehensive, compassionate and patient-centered care for children and adults that have been abused or sexually assaulted. Hidalgo County's only forensic exam center, Safe H.A.V.E.N. is specially designed to provide a secure and private area where medical personnel can perform the exam at the pace of the patient.

I want to start off by saying how grateful I am to still have my wife alive today…From calling  the ER to let them know that I was on my way with my wife that she is going into anaphylactic shock to the Doctor (K. Trevino), the nurses (Cassy RN and Yarili RN) and  CNA(Jesse) working together and in a timely manner to help stabilize my wife. I want to say a big thank you to the paramedic (Tim) that was at the entrance and listened and relayed the information that I had given him and rushed my wife to the back so they could start working on her. Thank you again to the staff at DHR from the bottom of mine and my family’s hearts for saving my wife.
